2015 Sandown Guineas Field Confirmed

November 11th, 2015

Fifteen three-year-olds have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2015 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m); highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting runners.

Mahuta has debuted to racing in exceptional form this time but will need luck in running on Saturday after drawing the wide and awkward barrier 14 for the 2015 Sandown Guineas.

Debuting to racing for second in a Seymour minor over 1110m on September 9th, Mahuta progressed to fourth in the Two Tarts Catering Maiden (1200m) a fortnight later before posting a maiden race win in the Winning Edge Presentations Maiden (1450m) on October 8th.

Making a successful transition to black type company when taking out the Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) with relative ease on October 17th, the son of Flying Spur will be seeking a third-consecutive Stakes win on Saturday having won the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Derby Day.

David Hayes and Tom Dabernig will launch a two pronged attack in the Group 2 for three-year-olds on Saturday after confirming both He’s Our Rokkii and Flying Light in the Sandown Guineas field.

He’s Our Rokkii stamped his claims as one to watch upon debuting to racing in New Zealand early this year; running third in a New Plymouth minor over 1100m before placing second in the Group 3 Phoenix Park 2.y.o Classic (1200m) and fourth in the Group 1 Manawatu Sires’ Prouce Stakes (1400m).

Debuting to Australian racing for success in the Westcourt Insurance Maiden (1206m) on September 15th, the Roc De Cambes gelding was luckless when blocked for a run and sixth in the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) but responded well for second in a Caulfield mile race on October 14th.

Having since placed fourth in the Carbine Club Stakes, He’s Our Rokkii will also need luck in transit from barrier 13 but is sure to be given a good ride from in-form hoop Damien Lane.

Posting a win and two minors through seven career starts, Flying Light over-raced in the Carbine Club Stakes last start but is sure to be boosted by the edition of Kerrin McEvoy to the saddle.

Having finished fourth in the Listed Poseidon Stakes (1400m) and third in the Gothic Stakes leading up to his most recent effort, the son of Exceed And Excel is up to the class and capable of success on Saturday.

The Grey Flash ran a credible sixth in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) last week, and while facing a sharp drop in distance for the 2015 Sandown Guineas, will be given every chance from barrier 4.

Winner of the Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at the conclusion of a strong maiden preparation, The Grey Flash has taken a few runs to find form this time but should be peaking for Saturday.
