Chill Party Primed for 2014 Sandown Guineas

November 13th, 2014

Having returned to racing in exceptional form this season, trainer Tom Hughes is confident three-year-old Chill Party is capable of overcoming the confirmed talented field and win Saturday’s Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).

Charging home to win the Woodside Park Stud Plate (1469m) first-up on October third, Chill Party repeated the dose when finding the line in the Arthur Clarke & Co. BM64 (1590m) two and a half lengths in the clear of his closest rival on October 13th before running a close second to Petrology in the Listed TV Stakes (1800m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day.

Having lined up at Sandown once during his maiden racing preparation in autumn, Hughes revealed he has been thrilled with the way the Nocconi colt has progressed from the TV Stakes and is confident he is saddling a live chance in the 2014 Sandown Guineas.

“He has come up really good and his win at Wangaratta was really good,” Hughes told RSN.

“He stepped up the other day and he was a little bit unlucky because they walked from the 900 to about the 500 and that probably cost him the race.

“He is a really nice, kind horse, he doesn’t show us much on the track, but he has done really well since the other day and the horse has really trained on really good.

“It is a very open race.

“We have been to Sandown before and that might be a bit of a plus for us we are hoping.”

Finishing a disappointing twelfth in a minor over 1200m on debut on April 20th, Chill Party placed a credible fourth in the Heading Out Hair & Beauty Handicap (1400m) at Sandown on May 7th and returned to the spelling paddock following another disappointing effort for eleventh in the White Horse Truck & Bus Maiden (1400m) on May 17th.

Confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Brad Werner, Chill Party is currently available at particularly generous odds of $21 for success in the 2014 Sandown Guineas or $5.40 to figure in the places with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.
