2010 Sandown Guineas Results – Pressday Beats Chasse and Bigelow

November 15th, 2010

On Saturday November 13, the Chris Waller-trained Pressday claimed a gritty win in the 2010 Sandown Guineas at Betfair Park Hillside proving his potential as the star miler for the upcoming autumn season.

Three-year-old Domesday colt Pressday performed well on the Heavy track conditions at Flemington and after being entered for the $350,000 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) as an after-thought following their first-up failure in the Coolmore Stud Stakes this spring, provided connections with a win.

Pressday, ridden by Nash Rawiller, settled well in the Guineas field letting Territory take the early lead.

Then as Territory began to fade Pressday ($4.60F) moved up and hit the front, winning a half length ahead of Peter Snowden’s Chasse ($21) with Bigelow a gallant third ($6) an extra length away.

In the autumn Pressday will solely target the Group 1 mile features, avoiding the sprints and the likes of unbeaten mare Black Caviar.

The Randwick Guineas on March 12 and the Doncaster Handicap on April 16 are both on the cards for Pressday, who will improve his value as a stallion dramatically with more Group 1 wins to add to his TJ Smith victory from last season.
