2010 Sandown Guineas Field & Barriers

November 11th, 2010

The 2010 Sandown Guineas final field and barrier draw was released by Racing Victoria this morning in the lead-up to the three-year-olds’ showdown taking place at Betfair Park Sandown Hillside this Saturday, November 13.

The final meeting of the coveted Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is Saturday’s Sandown Classic Day and one of the major events on the card is the $350,000 Group 2 Sandown Guineas (1600m).

A top class field of 10 three-year-olds will contest the 2010 Sandown Guineas including a number of last start winners such as the Clinton McDonald-trained Bigelow and Anthony Cummings’ Bellissimo.

Bigelow took out the Listed Hilton Stakes (1400m) in impressive style at Flemington on Emirates Stakes Day last Saturday, storming into contention for the Guineas.

Hilton Stakes second and third placegetters Yorkshire Lad and Lonhro colt Territory are also set to run in the Sandown Guineas on Saturday looking to turn the tables on Bigelow and score a Group win before the end of the season.

Reset gelding Bellissimo won a 1600m race at Randwick last Saturday and has drawn well in barrier two for Saturday.

Another horse that could prove popular with the punters is Group 1 winner Pressday.

The Chris Waller-trained Domesday colt emerged as a promising sprinter winning The T.J. Smith at Eagle Farm back in June, but failed at his first up spring start rearing in the gates and finishing a distant 11th in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day.

With an ideal barrier one draw on Saturday, Pressday is tipped to return to form and will be well-backed to win their fifth race from eight starts.

The 2010 Betfair Sandown Guineas is Race 6 on Saturday set to start at 3:30pm (AEDST) and odds will be released shortly so stay tuned for our betting preview.
